Autoimmune Blistering Diseases: CE marked kits for the detection of antibodies related to Pemphigus & Bullous Pemphigoid.

Pemphigus and Bullous Pemphigoid (BP) - distinct autoimmune diseases characterised by the presence of autoantibodies directed against specific adhesion molecules of the skin and mucous membranes.

Pemphigus - often fatal, autoimmune, blistering disease characterised by intraepithelial lesions. Two major subtypes; Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and Pemphigus foliaceus (PF).

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV)
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV)
Pemphigus foliaceus (PF)
Pemphigus foliaceus (PF)

Both are caused by autoantibodies binding to the adhesion molecules Desmoglein (Dsg1) in PF and Desmoglein 3 (Dsg3) in PV.

MBL provide two semi-quantitative ELISAs for the detection of Dsg1 and 3 autoantibodies in human serum. These kits are unique to MBL. They can be used to distinguish between PF and PV and for monitoring disease activity and clinical transition. Both ELISAs are CE marked and have high specificity.

Bullous Pemphigoid (BP) - acquired autoimmune disease of the skin and mucous membrane predominantly seen in the elderly. Skin lesions show separation of basal keratinocytes from underlying dermis leading to subepidermal blisters.

Autoantibodies from patients with BP target two proteins; BP180 and BP230.

MBL is the exclusive provider of diagnostic tests for BP180 and BP230 ELISA kits. Both kits have a high specificity (>98%) and allow semi-quantitative detection of the autoantibodies.
